Default Making the best of Hound of Ill Omen?

    Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has found any ways to really optimize the Shadow Sorcerer's level 6 power? Basically it is a medium sized dire wolf that hunts down 1 target when summoned as a bonus action followed by attacks of opportunity and penalties to saving throws for its target, when near it. Frankly, this sounds like a great creature although 3+ sorcery points per encounter seems expensive although with a few warlock levels this isn't a problem. So far here is what comes to mind for me, and seems to have a lot of promise as a fun summoner through level 3+.

    The Servant of Twilight:
    -Preferred Level: 9+
-Classes: Sorcerer 6 (Shadow Magic), Warlock 3 (Celestial)
-Obscene # of Cantrips: Light, Sacred Flame, 7 more cantrips, and finally 3 more cantrips from any list (Guidance, Shilleagh, and Thornwhip (Control) or Thunderwave (groups) all sound good to me?)
-Pact & Invocations: Pact of the Tome, Book of Ancient Secrets, Aspect of the Moon
-Tricks: This lets you have a reliable source of sorcery points (4 per short rest, that grows quickly.), Haste and Dragon Breath are both available for casting on either of your minions, great scouting while everyone else is resting due to using your familiar and looking through its eyes.

Every Average Sustained Damage: 30 on average with 1 sacrificed level 1 spell slot. Sacred Flame, Familiar or me with Dragons Breath, Hound of Ill Omen with continuous advantage due to friendly familiar or me in proximity.

Umm ... I thought the point of the hound was really the disadvantage to your spells that it imposes on your target.

Hound .. cast hold person/monster .. critical hits and advantage for everyone against that target until the end of its next target.

Hound on the big bad guy .. banish and deal with him after destroying the minions.

    Hound .. and disintegrate

Any damage the hound might do is secondary.

Yeah, think of it this way: 3 sorcery points and Heighten will force your opponent to make one spell save with disadvantage. Or 3 sorcery points and a bonus action will force one opponent to make every spell save with disadvantage for as long as the hound can stay close. Think of the hound as Heighten in a four-legged, hairy form.

So anything that offers a save works better with the hound -- which is nearly every spell that affects an enemy and doesn't involve an attack roll.

The key thing to remember is that 3 sorcerery points is expensive, so the hound is best saved for hard targets like legendary monsters, magic-resistant foes, or creatures with lots of defenses.

It is expensive enough to not be justified for using every combat. Its a single target effect so its best for the occasional really strong foe, e.g. boss fights or maybe to deal with a leader-type enemy in a big battle. Its a really nice ability. I think of it as sorta kinda heightened for free. There are few scenarios when its not at least as good as heightened spell.

Its basically a third level spell in terms of resources so I think "is this enemy worth a third level spell right now?" And of course "is the hound effective against this enemy?" My shadow sorcerer has a wand of lightning bolts so those are cheap. It often makes sense to summon it and immediately lightning bolt to impose disadvantage.

If you cast Dispel Magic on my Gust of Wind, does that mean you're disgusting?

In real estate, they say it's all about location, location, location. In D&D I say it's about action economy, action economy, action economy.
